Nashville - 2

Thursday 30 June,
We moved out to the KOA camping ground at ‘Music Valley’ (a few miles east of Nashville proper). It is the home of the ‘Grand Ole Opry’  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Ole_Opry).
This is only the second time we have had the tent up and it’s a pity because they have some nice parks here. Still, relying on buses has had its advantages too. One nice thing in the change of venues was when Chris said:
“Am I seeing things...… or has that bush got a set of fairy lights in it?”
Well neither actually..............
It was just on dusk when she spotted little lights in the bushes. At first she wasn’t sure she had seen them at all as they only flashed on for a second and it was almost like those pinpricks of light you sometimes get when you close your eyelids tightly. But no, these were real and we soon spotted some dancing a few inches over the lawn as well.
The cause, ‘Lightning Bugs’ (Fireflys) see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly . It appears that in some places these critters blink in unison. One of those places is here in Tennessee at a place called Elkmont.

The fireflys look like they have little light globes hanging off their bottoms…..as they hover around just above the ground they look a bit like a plane coming in to land at night……strange creatures.

A "take it easy" day today......We checked out the ‘RV’ (Recreational Vehicle) camping shop next door to the CVP. Very little in there for real campers. And no other shops nearby to satisfy my shopping craving.

The weather was very hot so we spent a fair bit of the day in the recreation room at the CVP. I spent some time chatting to Bonita Lee who provides advice and arranges tours of the Nashville area. She is a "local" and knows a lot about the history of the area. She was very helpful and gave us some good tips for getting around.

We had dinner at the Cock of the Walk restaurant which is right next door to the CVP. Meal was great and so was the wine. We had a second bottle in the bar after dinner!!

The barman, Mr Clint E. Collins dutifully checked our ID before serving us alcohol. It's the law here, doesn't matter how old you are.
