Cincinnati

Thursday 7th July 2011
Wednesday night….bus got in late. We had not booked in anywhere so we asked the cabbie to drop us off at the Holiday Inn Riverside in Covington, just over the river. Lucky they had vacancies.

In the morning we had scrambled eggs, hash browns, toast and coffee at the Waffle House. Mike has decided he LOVES the Waffle House. He reckons it looks like the diners you see in the movies.

We took the shuttle bus loop over the river to downtown and round to Newport and on the return trip got off at Fountain Square. Live music was playing in the middle of the square. Seems like there are lots of events which take place here. We took a walk up to Findlay Market which is north of the downtown area. The roads are lined with lovely old buildings. As we got further out there were gatherings of locals on the streets outside the old bars, cafes and shops.
The market was a lot smaller than we expected but maybe they are busier on weekends. Yams, sugar cane sticks and apples from NZ were among the produce on offer. We resisted the fresh Belgian waffles....with difficulty.

We saw a few interesting sites on our tour around town including the best example of this "fashion statement" which we have noticed a lot among the young guys. These poor guys seem to buy pants 5 sizes too big, the crutch hangs down past their knees and they spend most of their time holding them up. Most of the ones we have seen have been wearing long t shirts so they don't look so bad....but these two!!!!.....I couldn't help but snap this picture they are hilarious. Since taking this shot we have seen another similar site but this time the guy had bright pink underwear on. I offered to buy Mike some but for some reason he was not that keen!!!!
