Cincinnati - 2

Mount Adams
We were advised that we MUST see Mount Adams so we braved the heat and headed in the direction of the big hill overlooking downtown Cincinnati.

Our Lonely Planet guide directions were a bit confusing but a nice police officer stopped and gave us directions. He even drove ahead and waited for us further on to make sure we didn’t get lost. Great service Cincinnati police dept!!

The day was hot and we trudged up hills and steps and more hills and more steps….great exercise…..we were both drenched in sweat when we reached the top…...but it was definitely worth it.

The view was spectacular. You can see for miles. Cincinnati is on the Ohio river and has lots of big bridges spanning the river. You can see them all from Mount Adams. And city view is excellent.

Mount Adams township is so quaint. Lots of little old buildings, narrow streets, restaurants, cafes and bars and a magnificent old church full of beautiful murals. We wished we had more time to explore but it was already mid afternoon by the time we got there.

We stopped in for a “coldie” at Crowleys Highland House. I tried a Woodchuck cider, not something I would normally drink, but it was really nice….and COLD which was very welcome. We struck up conversation with Tom the barman and Bob one of the customers. We learned a lot about Mount Adams and about life in Cincinnati. It was Tom who suggested we go and look inside the church and we were glad we did. Stunning (see photos)

And what goes up must come down.....so after our extended drink break we headed back to town. Although no less hot, downhill was a lot easier than going up!!
